KitchenAid Classic Plus 4.5-qt. Stand Mixer: Your Ideal Stand Mixer

The Kitchenaid Classic Plus 4.5-qt. Stand Mixer is undoubtedly one of today’s more popular stand mixers on the market.

It’s a great starter mixer and also ideal for those needing something for every day home cooking.

You can think of it as the slightly smaller version of the KitchenAid Artisan Series stand mixer with a slightly smaller capacity than its 5-quart “big brother”.

With a star rating of over 4.5 and coming with an energy-efficient 275 watt motor, the KitchenAid Slow Start system and multipurpose attachment hub, it’s a great option for under $200.

The Kitchenaid Classic Plus 4.5-qt. Stand Mixer has a lockable tilt-head design. This allows you to conveniently lift the mixer head up to make the bowl easily accessible, to attach and detach accessories and adjust the beater height. The tilt-head is lockable to stop it jumping around during mixing and is easy to unlock and lift/tilt which, despite its weight, can be done with one hand.

One drawback is that it does require more vertical space to operate and this should be taken into consideration if the unit is to be used under a wall cabinet.

Wattage & Power

The KSM75WH’s motor is rated at 275 watts which is on the lower end when compared to other more powerful stand mixer models, but it is more energy efficient than many other products.

The motor is direct drive which means that power is delivered directly to the attachments and thus, more efficiently.

Despite the motor being on the lower end, it can perform the work of other higher powered stand mixers.

With the ability to handle mixes with up to 8 cups of flour, power is sufficient for such things as making cookies, muffins, cakes and most pastries for whipping cream and mixing and kneading bread and pizza dough. It does have its limitations though with thick dough.

Mixing Speeds

The Kitchenaid Classic Plus 4.5-qt. Stand Mixer has 10 mixing speeds ranging from ‘Stir’, the slowest, which is a slow stir for gentle mixing and should be used at the start of any mixing task up to ‘10’ which is a fast whipping for egg whites or cream.

Each time you start the mixer, the Slow Start feature kicks in. This is for your own convenience – it saves you from having the ingredients come flying out at you at higher speeds.

As with any mixer, you have to add the ingredients slowly, or start by gently mixing the ingredients by hand.

With the Kitchenaid Classic Plus 4.5-qt. Stand Mixer being a planetary action stand mixer, the beater spirals around the bowl making contact with the ingredients at various points. This gives you a more uniform and more thorough mixing.

KitchenAid Classic Plus Bowl Size & Capacity

The stainless steel bowl that comes with the KSM75WH is 4 ½ quarts capacity and is one of the smallest capacity models from KitchenAid and doesn’t have a handle. Although smaller than the 5-quart bowl that comes with the KitchenAid Artisan, it can quite easily handle ingredients for cookies, cakes, brownies and similar.

Included Attachments

The attachments that are included with the KSM75WH Classic Plus are the same as come with the more expensive KitchenAid products. These are:

  • Flat Beater
  • Wire Whip
  • Dough Hook
  • The beaters are attached by pushing the end up over the beater shaft and, with using a partial twist to lock them into place.

You can also purchase additional accessories.

Optional Accessory Attachments

The Kitchenaid Classic Plus 4.5-qt. Stand Mixer comes with the “standard” KitchenAid attachment hub. The attachment hub is where you insert optional external attachments like a food grinder or the sausage stuffer for example. Power from the motor is directed to the attachment hub to work any such inserted attachments.

One thing to note is that the 4 ½-quart bowl that comes with the mixer does not have a handle but a same capacity bowl with handle can be bought separately if needed.

Dimensions

  • 14.1 x 8.7 inches x 13.9 inches
  • Weight: 25 lb.

At 25 lb, the Kitchenaid Classic Plus 4.5-qt. Stand Mixer is weighty enough that you will not want to keep moving it on and off your worktop regularly. Rather you would want to leave it out in a permanent position on the worktop.
